03/20/08: I know the PNG file format allows for different filter algorithms to be used before compression (Sub, Up, Average and Paeth). Is there a way i can find out which one GIMP is using to save the PNG file and thereby, select a different Filter Algorithm? I am doing mobile phone game development and i need some heavy control over compression.
11/02/07: Has anyone gotten the web-o-tine (
http://registry.gimp.org/plugin?id=2821) script to work with the new script-fu (tinyscheme, not siod)? 10/29/07: Is there a list of all the Script-Fu parameters (SF-IMAGE, SF-DIRNAME, etc...) you can put in the "script-fu-register" function of a script?
10/06/07: The colorize/colourise tool: Entering a given saturation S and lightness V, to what target saturation S' and target value V' is a black pixel mapped? Formula?
10/04/07: How do I localize/ translate the GIMP to new languages? I cannot find any documentation on the homepage, the wiki, or within the software.
08/22/07: Is there a way to change the default values used by a Gimp plugin? i.e. How to change the default radius of Unsharp from 5.0 to 0.7? Cheers.
07/25/07: I want to draw arrows, how can i draw arrows, i couldn't find them. Thanks
07/10/07: Is it possible to use GIMP to 'bend' or distort a bitmap? For example, I have a rectangular image (think flat earth) and would like to bend it into a curved image (e.g., with true earth curvature). Another way to describe it is that I would like to be able to define a shape and then distort a (rectangular) bitmap to fit that shape.
06/14/07: How does one draw on an existing image? I have used the GIMP in the past, for this very purpose without issue, but for some reason, I can't get any bush or pencil strokes to display. I have selected the pencil, the brush, checked that it was not set to any opacity, checked the color, then I attempt to draw on a jpg or any other image I have opened and I get nothing. If I look at the icon of the layer in the layers panel, it displays a layer with some markings on it (the layer is on top as well), but the image displays none of the brush strokes I add. I am simply trying to draw a rough circle around some screen shots. It sounds like you are drawing 100% transparent (in other words, 0% opaque) strokes, which are invisible.
05/18/2007: Is there any documentation for the Windows binary version of GIMP 2.2.14? The 2.2.12 downloadable documentation does NOT work with 2.2.14. The directory structure for the 2.2.14 online help system is entirely different and it does not appear this can be changed. Thank you.
How can make a poster sized print of a image using a regular printer? I.e. a 8x10 image scaled up to nine pages of 8x10 print pages? Image->PrintSize did not do it.
At what point will scripts be consistent with Gimp 2.3.X? Will there be a compatibility list of scripts by Gimp version?

How do I link a layer to a graphics file, so that I can update that file independently from GIMP and have the change show up in GIMP?
How do I get an image to resize? When I use the resize tool & increase the size, it only increases the background size & leaves the image the same size. How can I get the image to match the background size? I must be missing something easy. In photoshop, it is really easy to resize an image but I can't figure it out here. I welcome any advice. thanks!
How do I print multiple copies of a document?
Is there any way to make Windows GIMP use a default folder for saving images? (At the moment it always defaults to the My Pictures folder after it's restarted)
How do I run a run a (dynamically created) Script-Fu script from the command-line in Gimp 2.2 (it used to work in Gimp 2.0)?
I am making an animation using GAP (GIMP Animation Package) which a friend is going to import into Final Cut Pro. It has a transparent background and the objects in the animation will be partially transparent (ie. have an opacity). What should I export it as? (I can't export it as an animated gif because things can't be partially transparent and the finished file draws each successive frame on top of the previous one so that the entire animation leaves a trail)
I am used to using brushes to add and subtract to mask areas, why doesn't the gimp support this? It only seems to be able to select regions by hand drawing or boxes and circles, which is much slower and harder to do in many cases.
>> What about the eraser tool, doesn't it do what you want, substract from the mask with the selected brush? Is this what you meant?
>> I mean adding and subtracting to the borders of the mask, I don't see any possible way of using the eraser to change borders of masks. (Gimp refers to these masks as regions) If something isn't square, elliptical, or sharing one color it would take forever hand drawing the region around it. There's combining different region selection tools, but still more of pain to do than using brushes to select regions.
How do I completely uninstall Win32 GIMP? The standard uninstall doesn't completely remove it (I want to uninstall it to try reinstalling it, the initial install borked somehow and now I'm stuck not being able to install a working GIMP).
